Maruti Suzuki Dzire Extends Its Lead
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire remained the undisputed leader in the sedan segment with 17,899 units sold in June 2026. The compact sedan registered a healthy 15.6 percent year-on-year growth and commanded an impressive 57.4 percent market share, highlighting its continued popularity among private buyers, fleet operators, and first-time car owners.
The Dzire’s strong fuel efficiency, feature-rich cabin, widespread service network, and attractive ownership costs continue to make it India’s preferred sedan.
Hyundai Aura Continues Consistent Performance
The Hyundai Aura secured the second position with 5,977 units, reflecting a 10.4 percent YoY increase. The Aura has carved out a niche among buyers seeking a stylish compact sedan equipped with modern features and multiple powertrain options, including CNG variants.
Its consistent sales indicate sustained demand in the highly competitive sub-four-metre sedan segment.
Honda Amaze Emerges as the Fastest Growing Mainstream Sedan
Honda recorded one of the strongest performances of the month with the Amaze selling 2,937 units, registering an impressive 29.2 percent year-on-year growth. The strong momentum suggests that the updated Amaze continues to resonate with customers looking for a refined petrol engine, spacious cabin, and Honda’s reputation for reliability.
The Amaze comfortably retained the third position among India’s best-selling sedans in June.
Virtus and Slavia Battle in the Mid-Size Sedan Space
Volkswagen Virtus sold 1,195 units, witnessing a 32.8 percent decline compared to the same month last year. Despite the drop, it remained the highest-selling premium sedan in the Volkswagen portfolio.
Close behind was the Skoda Slavia with 1,083 units, posting a healthy 20.9 percent YoY growth. The narrowing gap between the two siblings indicates increasing competition within the Volkswagen Group’s sedan lineup.
Honda City Holds Steady, Tata Tigor Faces Decline
The Honda City continued to enjoy stable demand, recording 745 units and a modest 5.1 percent growth over June 2025. Although SUVs dominate this price bracket, the City remains a preferred choice for buyers seeking driving comfort and premium refinement.
On the other hand, Tata Tigor registered 602 units, witnessing a 23.6 percent decline, reflecting the increasing preference for compact SUVs and crossovers in the entry-level market.
Toyota Camry Maintains Niche Presence
The Toyota Camry remained a niche offering in the premium sedan space, with 191 units sold during June 2026. While volumes remain relatively low, the hybrid sedan continued to post positive year-on-year growth, supported by rising consumer interest in fuel-efficient premium vehicles.
Sedan Segment Still Holds Its Ground
Although SUVs continue to dominate India’s passenger vehicle market, the sedan segment demonstrated healthy resilience in June 2026. Compact sedans remained the primary volume drivers, led overwhelmingly by the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, while models such as the Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze continued to attract buyers through a combination of efficiency, practicality, and value.
With overall passenger vehicle sales witnessing robust growth during the month, the sedan category remains an important contributor to the Indian automotive market, even as consumer preferences increasingly shift towards SUVs.
