India’s luxury electric vehicle (EV) market continued its rapid expansion in June 2026, posting its strongest monthly performance yet. Luxury EV registrations more than doubled year-on-year to 804 units, marking a 105.6% increase over the 391 units recorded in June 2025. Compared to May 2026, the segment also grew by an impressive 20.9%, highlighting sustained momentum in premium electric mobility.
The strong performance mirrors the broader Indian EV market, which crossed 30,000 monthly passenger vehicle sales for the first time in June. Rising consumer acceptance, expanding product portfolios and increasing availability of premium electric models continue to drive growth across segments.
BMW Maintains Commanding Lead
BMW remained the undisputed leader in India’s luxury EV segment with 489 registrations, representing a 102.1% year-on-year increase and a 30.7% month-on-month rise. The German luxury marque captured a commanding 60.8% market share, meaning more than six out of every ten luxury EVs registered in June carried the BMW badge.
Mercedes-Benz retained second place with 234 registrations, up 107.1% from the same month last year. The brand also posted a healthy 7.8% month-on-month growth, giving it a 29.1% share of the luxury EV market. Together, BMW and Mercedes-Benz accounted for nearly 90% of all luxury EV registrations during the month, underlining their dominance in India’s premium electric space.

Tesla Begins Making Its Presence Felt
One of the notable developments in June was Tesla’s growing footprint in India. The EV maker registered 35 luxury vehicles, giving it a 4.4% market share. While year-on-year comparisons are unavailable due to its recent entry, Tesla has already established itself as the fourth-largest luxury EV brand in the country by monthly registrations.
Volvo continued its steady growth with 36 registrations, while Porsche remained a niche player with eight units. Audi and Lotus registered just one vehicle each during the month.
Luxury EVs Outpace the Overall Market
The luxury EV segment’s growth significantly outpaced the already strong performance of India’s electric passenger vehicle market. Overall EV sales reached 31,253 units in June 2026, a new monthly record and the first time the industry crossed the 30,000-unit milestone. Sales more than doubled compared to June 2025, driven by robust demand across both mass-market and premium segments.
The premium segment is benefiting from a growing choice of electric luxury SUVs and sedans, improved charging infrastructure and increasing consumer confidence in EV technology. Recent launches from Mercedes-Benz, continued expansion of BMW’s electric portfolio and fresh offerings from global manufacturers are helping sustain demand.
